About Kyle
1) Before becoming an actor, you were in a high ranking Ontario soccer team. What was the highlight of your soccer career? Ever get a header goal?
I think I've had a few header goals but the highlight of my career was probably the time my team and I spent in Europe. It was an incredible experience; it allowed us as a team to see how far we had to push ourselves and what it took to succeed in the sport.
2) Besides all the things you are learning to portray as a vampire on Blood Ties, what’s the most challenging or interesting skill you have had to learn to portray a character? Perhaps tennis for The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants or skating for Zerophilia?
Ha, I grew up playing street hockey in Toronto. Its part of what almost every teenager does growing up here. As for Henry Fitzroy, there were many things that were challenging, but I think the most important one, is the significance of having Henry live and breathe as an old soul. 450 years of old soul. I'm not quite near that, but I’m trying.
3) Thank you for letting us know that a myspace account claiming to be you is a fake. Do you surf the internet or avoid the World Wide Web entirely?
I do my best to avoid it like the plague. But it's an easy way to keep in touch with friends and family when you’re on location. Once in a while you get curious. Although, I found the myspace site when a friend of mine, I hadn't talk to for years, called me mad that I hadn't responded to them on "my myspace". Imagine my shock.
4) I believe that the Covenant has been your biggest budgeted production to date. Your character, Aaron, had a large role in the beginning of the movie and then faded away after the locker scene. What would you have liked to have seen happen with Aaron? What was your experience like on the Covenant?
I would have liked to have seen Aaron come back and be more involved, but the script really didn't call for it. I'm sure it would have seemed weird with four potential superheroes to have been saved by a regular Joe, nonetheless the bully of the school. But the production was a blast to work on. Steve (Strait), Sebastian (Stan), Chase (Crawford), Toby (Hemingway) and Taylor (Kitsch) were great fun...there was always action.
5) What’s the current CD in your CD player, the movie in your DVD player and your most recent ticket stub in your wallet?
G Love and Special Sauce - CD
Living in Oblivion - DVD
Grindhouse - Ticket Stub
6) What kind of dog do you have? What's the puppy's name?
I have a puppy named Cali. I adopted her from a shelter in California. She's a Heinz 57, mostly lab, collie, terrier, hound...among many others. She is my baby.
About Henry
1) What can be immortalized as your first scene filmed as Henry Fitzroy?
Oh geeze...I really wish 7 months and what seems like a zillion hours of work didn't get jumbled up in your head. Understand we shot 6 day episodes and 10 pages a day for 7 months.
2) What vampire costume element is more challenging, the black eyes or the fangs?
Definitely the fangs. As soon I tried them on it was obvious it was going to be a challenge to speak without lisping. I borrowed them for a few days just to practice. Nobody likes a lispy vampire.
3) Now that you have entered the league of memorable vampires as Henry Fitzroy, who is your favorite portrayal of a Vampire?
Brad Pitt - Interview with a Vampire
4) Since you play a vampire, are most of your scenes at night and are you becoming a night owl?
Luckily we shoot in a studio for the most part, but I've always been kind of a night owl.
5) What would you like to happen with your character on the show? What would be Henry’s ultimate storyline?
I would absolutely love to get into Henry’s past. Doing flashbacks from WW1 or the Great Depression and tying in a love story and an arch nemesis would be fun.
About Blood Ties
1) How do you and the cast/crew fill time during filming breaks? Any of the other cast/crew members good at soccer? Building a team yet?
Funny you mention that, we tried to put together a scrimmage team but didn't work out per timing and shooting schedules. Next year we will, that’s for sure.
2) What’s the biggest perk of being a main cast member on a television show?
Having absolutely no life for 7 months at a time. I'm kidding, it gave me the constant opportunity to discover new limits as a person and as an actor I've always liked to push myself. It's also another big step up a never ending ladder.
3) What’s the funniest thing that has happened on the set?
We've got lots of outtakes. Let’s hope they put together a Reel for an episode so everyone can watch one day.
4) You are starring in your own series that is gaining popularity in the US but are you getting recognized on the streets in Canada?
Not really. I kind of like it that way. It's like living dual lives.
5) Without giving away spoilers, what is your favorite Season 1 episode and why?
Episode 8 is one of my favorites because the opportunity for more range in Henry and the phenomenal guest star, Julian Sands. Our final episode is out of this world. It'll leave you breathless.
Message Board Questions from Fans
From xfilervamp: What's the strangest thing that a fan has sent you/done to get your attention?
Nothing that stands out so far. The floor’s all yours.
From Kate: Since a lot of actors bring a bit of themselves to the character they are playing, I would ask him how much of Henry is the character and how much is Kyle. Also, what does he like best about playing Henry?
Everyone will break down or analyze Henry in a different way. You might have to meet me and have your own opinion.
From LH-C: How does he like playing not only an adult, but a vampire of quite advanced age, after playing teenagers? And what kinds of challenges come with the role?
I love to challenge myself. It’s difficult as an actor sometimes to get the material or the role that will allow you to expand your range. Obviously I am not a 450 year old VAMPIRE. The opportunity to jump feet first into this type of role was awesome.
From Anne: My friend would like to know if there is any trait - or possession - of Henry's you would like to have yourself ...
Many objects have sentimental meaning. The one with the most would be the wooden rosary I wear on my wrist.
From darkamethyst: I'd like to know if he could ask his fans questions what kind of questions would they be?
I would really like to know where they would like to see the show going. Fantasies etc,...lol within reason of course.
From SanLynn: In Kyle's career up to this point, what's been his favorite role and what, if any, role in any movie/tv/stage production is his dream role?
Previous to Bloodties, of course, I really loved working on History of Violence. Working with Cronenberg (David Cronenberg, the Director) as a young actor was a very cool experience. Not to mention reading about him in my film books.
From for_no_one1014: I would ask how he prepares himself on the set to get into the character of Henry!
You can never underestimate the power of the processing. The drive from home to set you clear you're head. Then there's the hair and make-up and finally the wardrobe. If you look a certain way, you feel a certain way and you act a certain way.
From MarieWP: I'd ask what was his favorite scene to film and why? (from Blood Ties)
I really enjoy shooting the physical scenes; I've always been an athlete. Rewarding would be scenes throughout episode 8.
From Grave_Tidings: What was the audition like and how did he react when he found out he got the role of Henry?
The auditioning was long process, taking place over about a month or so. I celebrated with friends, and family. I took everyone to dinner.
From jenniferxdawn: I'd ask what his middle name is, that is if he has one.
Ha, Andreas.
From melikeyhenry: What do you like to do during your downtime?
I don't get much downtime but I have a year and half old pup. We'd run a lot, skateboard and hike. I always try for something different.
From freg: What he loves most about Toronto? How do I know he loves it? It's Toronto. Plain and simple.
I was born and raised in Toronto, more accurately Port Credit for my Torontonians out there who are laughing saying PC's not Toronto. Its home, the nightlife’s great, as are my friends and family, what not to love?
From MistressoftheDark: Do you have or have you had any input into the direction that Henry takes sometimes? Like, do you interact with the director or writers when you feel a certain way Henry should act or feel?
All the time. That’s an ongoing process that we work with everyday. It's a collaboration of people wanting to make the best product possible.
From MissKitty67: If he has any tattoos, if so what are they & where? If not, any plans to get any.
No tattoos as of yet. I've had plans to get them in the past, but wanted to wait for things with more reason. As you grow up, you realize what's more important. I've got some ideas on the go.
From Anne: What are you going to do during hiatus?
I have plans to do a couple films, AFTER I recoup and get my head back on straight. You'll find out about them when we start prep.
There ya go. Hope the fans will enjoy,
Kyle
